Friday, March 29 is National Mom & Pop Business Owner’s Day. So, there’s never been a better opportunity to tell you about our origin story here at Southshore Physical Therapy.

Lee & Jess, 2003, expecting their first child and future physical therapist, Brooke Couret.

First opening its doors in June 2003, Southshore was originally located at 3000 Severn Avenue in Metairie. In those early days, house calls were also offered but, as the number of referrals multiplied daily, the clinic became a full-service operation seeing all of its patients in house. And when the client list grew, so did the need for new technological advancements for our patients. Our first big purchase was the Biodex Isokinetic Dynamometer, an invaluable and fully customizable tool that remains one of our most utilized testing and rehabilitation resources today.

In addition to serving senior, injured and post-surgical patients, Southshore also began specializing in working with young athletes in the areas of strengthening, rehabilitation and injury prevention. Thus was born Southshore Performance Training in 2008, offering personalized coaching and conditioning classes to high school students involved in a broad spectrum of competitive sports at schools around the city.

Lee & Jess, 2023, three kids later enjoying a thriving business. Somehow, there’s always cake around here.

As the company developed and the need for expansion became clear, Southshore moved to its current home at 3515 Hessmer Avenue in August of 2017. The extra space in both the clinic and the parking lot enabled our client base to grow by leaps and bounds. We take great pride in serving each and every person who comes to Southshore. And if client feedback is any indication, our patient satisfaction grade has never been higher. Word of mouth endorsements and online testimonials are our best sales tools.

Since its beginning, Southshore has served more than 10,000 patients from all walks of life in and around the Greater New Orleans Area. We’ve trained dozens of the city’s future physical therapists and proudly sent many of our own to the LSU Health Sciences Center’s physical therapy doctorate program and other similar disciplines and curriculums. And we’re always looking for ways to bring Southshore to the next level, most recently investing in the Proteus 3D Resistance machine, the first of its kind in the entire state of Louisiana.

We welcome you to come say hello and experience the Southshore difference.

Happy National Mom & Pop Business Owner’s Day!
