Ever since 1999, the month of May has been designated as National Get Caught Reading Month, a nationwide initiative created to increase literacy in all ages. The world around us is moving faster and getting busier by the day. This commemorative month is intended to serve as a reminder to all of us to slow down once in a while and lose ourselves in a good book. Television, video games, social media and other distractions can all get in the way of this brain-boosting activity. It’s time to start a new chapter. (Pun intended.) So, grab that bestseller from the bookstore, borrow a recommended title from a friend or even revisit an old favorite from your own bookshelves and get reading.

  • Makes you a smarter, broad-minded person (Ever heard the term “well-read?”)
  • Promotes relaxation by offering an escape into another reality
  • Clears your mind from life’s distractions
  • Helps induce deep sleep when reading before bedtime
  • Expands your vocabulary and knowledge of word usage
  • Strengthens your memory and logical skills
  • Keeps your mind focused and sharp, especially as we get older
