Scientific literature repeatedly demonstrate that poor balance is a risk factor for falls among the elderly. Southshore offers it’s Fall Risk Screening and Conditioning Program to help combat this issue and help keep our grandparents in the upright position! In addition to the usually battery of balance tests, we utilize the Biodex Balance System to identify potential fall candidates. The results of these tests are compared to age dependent normative data (i.e., people your age) and, along with an orthopedic physical therapy screen, help determine which weaknesses need to be addressed in your individual Conditioning Program to decrease your risk of falling down.
If you have a history of a previous orthopedic injury or surgery (such as a rotator cuff repair or anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction), the skilled physical therapists at Southshore can design an exercise program for you that takes into account your prior injury or surgery so that you may safely improve or maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Southshore has developed a reputation for its injury prevention programs for high school and college level athletes. If you have concerns over the health of your or your loved one’s knees or shoulders becoming injured during their respective sports ,or if you want to strengthen these areas to enhance performance through effective, scientifically-based exercise programs, we can help. Southshore provides a thorough screening evaluation, education on the how and why these injuries occur, and develop individualized, sport-specific exercise programs for our athletes to keep them on the field or court and injury free.
New to exercise and don’t know where to begin? From Girl Scouts to Grandmas, we can help. An evaluation and exercise program designed to work on everything including cardiovascular health, strengthening and flexibility in an environment that is safe and fun. We can answer all of your exercise concerns and technique questions.
The skilled therapists at Southshore Physical Therapy have effectively self-regulated our physical therapy practice via participation in a nationwide network of independently owned physical therapy clinics.
This network advocates cost effective quality care for services by mandating member clinics to participate in and adhere to the functional outcomes measurements program, strict credentialing (initial and re-credentialing), and ongoing quality assurance and utilization review programs. Adhering to these high standards and cost-effective care allows Southshore to be recognized as a preferred provider on most insurance plans.
Our front office staff will happily help you determine your coverage for our services. We recognize that you need to choose a healthcare provider based on your coverage by your insurance carrier, Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) or Preferred Provider Organization (PPO). That being said, we have patients that choose to pay out-of-pocket even if we are not providers on their insurance plans because their experience at Southshore is that good.
Southshore participates in over 100 managed care and insurance plans. We are confident that we are a preferred provider for your insurance plan.
